Future State Concepts

The Next Generation Booking Engine (NGBE) was a major project looking into the future of the Virgin Australia booking experience. The project informed future booking engine priorities and enhancements. These included a refined information hierarchy, clearer fare inclusions, and improved upsell opportunities.

Multiple enhancements to the Virgin Australia app have been explored, including improvements to the home screen, day-of-travel information, flight information card, Velocity Frequent Flyer integration, flight search flow, iOS Live Activity notification, onboarding flow, and flight details screen.

Within the booking engine platform, implementing major enhancements can be challenging, and changes are typically limited to cosmetic updates. A set of future-state screens was created, strictly keeping to these requirements. Enhancements include aligning with design system components and principles, refining hierarchy as informed by NGBE insights, improving clarity on key upsell steps, and ensuring consistency across the whole flow.
